Team Project

Making team work come alive in a multi-generational workforce ...

Our group kept in contact with one another over the course of the project through whatsapp. We first video called on the fourth of march and we discussed possible multinational companies we could look at and voiced any information or ideas that we had. A week or two later we made the decision to focus on Amazon. There were a few calls which I was absent from in that period but kept in contact with Luke, Caoimhe and Denisa in the group and started my research. After Luke chose waste, Caoimhe chose Non Renewables and Denisa chose fuel consumption I wasn't sure which angle to go from but through research decided on consumption and economics.

During the halfway point of the project we tried to organise calls but the groups wifi wasn't always strong enough and there were times group members electricity went out.. Denisa organised a google drive for all of us to put our work into so we could see how everyone was doing and get an idea what sort of direction we were heading in. This was proved vital later in the project as it allowed us all to work together at the same time and help one another with the work. The google drive also allowed each of us to see one another's work so we could understand the general direction we were going in.

I think once the lockdown took effect everyone had more free time on their hands so for the last 4 to 5 weeks of the project we agreed that we would hold a group call once a week to see how we were all getting along. The closer we got to the presentation the more active we became in the groupchat. I would have expected that a team leader would have found their place in the group but that never really materialised. Perhaps Caoimhe as she was usually the one trying to organise the group calls. However there was no dominant force in the group. I was lucky to be in a group with Luke, Denisa and Caoimhe as we all had a similar work rate and didn't have to carry the slack for any team member. This was actually the first group project that i have done in which everyone worked together at a somewhat equal pace. It reminded me of all the benefits working in a team can offer.

In the last few weeks Caoimhe, Luke and me video called on whatsapp to try and organise the presentation and arrange our speaking order. I agreed to do the introduction and Luke agreed he would do the closing lines of the presentation. We also decided what sort of approach and tone we would take for the presentation. We agreed it would be best be blunt but maintain positive throughout the presentation. The four of us then started to put in our diagram and pictures into the presentation. We decided it was best to mix up the speakers and read parts of each other's pieces to keep the presentation more lively so everyone listening wouldn't start to go on their phones. The four of us put all our information into a script document so we could all access it and see what we would have to read. A few days before the presentation was due the four of us video called on whatsapp to have a mock run of the presentation. As we read through our parts we all altered and helped one another change and rewrite certain parts of the script.

Everyone in our group synced well with one another. There were no arguments and everyone was on the same level.  Everyone pulled their own weight and because we all got on so well it made it easier to put the project together. Caoimhe, Luke and Denisa were a pleasure to work with.
